Dedh Ishqiya.. 1.5 times Brilliant !

I happened to watch डेढ़ Ishqiya this evening.. the only regret I have about it is that I didn't watch it earlier.

The best thing about this movie ?

Well, there are just too many good things that make it difficult to decide the best part. After a long time I think, I have watched a Bollywood flick which comes close to zero loopholes in script, and its minor absurdities can be happily ignored in exchange for the truckload of entertainment it offers.

I wouldn't say it is riotously funny. It definitely is humorous. Every time humor is intended, it is effective and does make you go LOL. The lack of the usual effect-less dim-wit humor, which Bollywood is so bent upon serving these days, is refreshing and relieving.

The presence of Urdu makes this movie a brilliant watch. It has wonderful sher-o-shayari for the poetically inclined, more so in the first half. Particularly Naseeruddin Shah's recitation is a great one.

Arshad Warsi is always great in comedies.. but with the Ishqiya'S he is more likely to go down in history as Babban than as Circuit. Naseeruddin Shah is flawless. Huma Qureshi also does a nice job.

Biased I may be, but I would say the best part about it is.. of course, the eternally charming Madhuri Dixit. She appears ever more beautiful, her elegance multiplied DEDH times by the Nawabi Leheja and Urdu dialogues.

Better than the first ?

Yes. more than 1.5 times. There isn't too much of running around like the first movie, giving time to the plot to grow and the characters to evolve. Unlike the first movie, where by the end the negative side of everybody has been exposed and you are left confused whether you like or dislike every character..  in डेढ़ , you end up loving everybody.

For people like me, who don't even pronounce the two K-words of Dharmendra fame.. there is a great advantage over the first.. here the dialogues are more cleaner. Nawabi tehzeeb and use of refined language, makes the slang tolerable.

And again, Madhuri Dixit in femininity and grace far supersedes Vidya Balan.

Overall, it may not break the D3 records, but this is one movie you would regret to miss.
So please Don't !
